Jonah Hill, building a burgeoning film career, and Keanu Reeves, riding high thanks to the ultra-popular John Wick: Chapter 4come together for a dark Hollywood story.
Apple Original Films took off Resulta dark comedy that Hill will direct and co-wrote with Ezra Woods.
Reeves is in talks for the top film, which will also star Hill.
Result will star Reeves as Riff, a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to face his demons and make amends after being blackmailed with a mysterious video from his past.
Hill, apparently no slouch, will also produce Result with Matt Dines, his partner in their Strong Baby banner, along with the company’s Ali Goodwin. The project will be an Apple Studios production.
The deal finds a home for Result, which hit town like a hot pack in November. The draft was picked up in a competitive situation, but the length of time it took to get a deal done shows how tight the current market is for high-priced packages, even ones with high-list talent. Directors, stars and their agencies are finding that buyers are pickier and stricter when it comes to buying.
It really helps that Reeves is now enjoying the zenith of his career. fuse 4 opened to a franchise-best $73.5 million at the domestic box office and was also one of the best debuts of Reeves’ career. The film has already grossed over $247 million worldwide after just 12 days of release.
Result keeps Apple in Hill’s business as he continues to build his film portfolio with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Hill and Apple Original Films are developing a Grateful Dead biopic with Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions to be directed by Scorsese, with Hill set to star and produce with Dines and Goodwin under Strong Baby.
Strong Baby recently produced the Netflix comedy You people starring Hill, Julia Louis Dreyfuss, Eddie Murphy and Lauren London. Hill, best known for his comedies and for his Oscar-nominated performance in Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street, made his feature directorial debut with the well-received coming-of-age drama in 2018. Apple, which last year became the first streamer to win Best Picture for its drama CODA, has two major records set to debut this year.
