Octopath Traveler 2 has a free demo on Switch now

During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, the company briefly talked about Square Enix’s upcoming turn-based RPG Octopath Traveler 2, which launches on February 24 for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation consoles. Nintendo also revealed that a free demo will be available later today. The best part, though, is that if you happen to check out the demo, your save progress will carry over to the full game if you decide to buy the sequel. Cool!

Octopath Traveler is Square Enix’s award-winning and critically acclaimed pixelated RPG in the vein of And Final Fantasy games. Originally released as a Switch exclusive in July 2018, Octopath Traveler garnered favorable reviews among critics for its captivating visual effects and innovative combat system, subsequently winning 83 on Metacritic and 84 of Open Critic. The sequel, announced in September 2022, looks very likely following the example of the original.

Octopath Traveler 2while bearing an obvious resemblance to previous game, follows an entirely new set of characters in a completely different setting. So it seems that you you don’t have to have played the original to pick up the sequel. However, having some experience with it can help, especially with the games combat system.

IN Octopath Traveler 2 demo, you will be able to play the “working hours” of the game. According to Square Enix’s YouTube channel, the game can last up to three hours, as “travel outside the starting zones” is limited. Regardless of how much time you put into the demo, the progress you make will carry over to the full release when Octopath Traveler 2 coming out towards the end of this month.
