There are many gifts to be found on the self-proclaimed “video game cheese” Velvet Caveat’s TikToklike gay Team Rocket and most recently an electric blue Gyrados doll holding the part of Ariana Grande “Rain On Me” during lip sync.

“No, but Gyariana killed it,” Caveat wrote in the caption, perhaps downplaying the surreality of watching a sharp-toothed Water/Flying type handle Ariana Grande’s vocals with ease while she’s dressed as a sophisticated nude Misty.

The doll was a collaboration between friends, Caveat tells me via email –Matty make the head and doll Zak and Alex works on the body.

“It was inspired by Carmen Faralla of Drag Race Spain who this amazing kind of snake I loved,” she says. “I wanted to interpret it in my own way. Why not have Misty be pinned down by Gyarados? I even had Staryu earrings from my friend, Girl1000 Jewelry! It was a fun interpretation that hadn’t been done before and it meant that Gyariana (her name) could do a duet with me doing ‘Rain On Me’ for the finale of the show. She even shot water in the final chorus!”

A stunning Gyariana, to me, just marks another night for Caveat doing their video game themed drag show SlayStation in London from December 2021. Gyrados’ presentation was part of the recent Pokemon-themed Master Ball.

About the foundation SlayStationCaveat says he “decided I wanted to start my own show and space and thought, ‘Why not combine my two passions, video games and performance?’

Caveat, who is trans, had never tried cosplay before starting SlayStationbut I felt that “video games have always allowed me to express myself and my identity in a safe space, especially while I was still figuring it out in the real world.”

“I really wanted to convey the importance of this to me and so many other people with the event,” she continues.

Video games form the crystal-studded platform for Caveat’s plans – it was even its name inspired by Sphere of Odin. And just over a year old, SlayStation has already motivated a lot of video game drag including a Golden cosplay inked false eyelashes, glamorous Lopunnyand for warning, Bayonetta.

“As a 6’4 woman, I felt like I could really do her credit,” she tells me.

The event is already gaining recognition through TikTok and through industry professionals like Kim Chiwho competed in the eighth season of RuPaul’s Drag Raceand British Drag Race star Dakota Schifferwho were both present SlayStationThe Master Ball event.

But it’s not just fun to watch. it also creates a lively and comfortable space for fans of quirky video games.

“Best show I’ve seen in a long time,” one commenter wrote on Instagram SlayStationpublication of highlighting the importance of trans representation. “So much love in the room, can’t wait for the next one.” They’ll just have to wait a little longer — there a Doki Doki Literary Club– thematic event is coming in February, and Cavett tells me he’s already planning “a big Final fantasy show in a few months to celebrate the new games.”

“It should have more fun looks and performances,” she says. It’s coming square enix hurricane bitch.
